“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
The Warmth of Enlightenment
Sculpted by Craigger Browne, the sculpture provides a tribute to Helen Keller and her teacher, Anne Sullivan. The piece depicts the time when Anne Sullivan made a significant breakthrough in the education of Helen by getting her to understand how to spell the word “water.”
As you look at the sculpture, you will notice the shape of a heart outlined by Anne’s and Helen’s arms. As the artist explained, this heart depicts the love that developed between these individuals.
This sculpture was made from a solid block of Sylacauga marble. This sculpture was dedicated in 2017 by the Alabama Lions.
Knights of the Blind Walkway at Ivy Green
Recently, Lion John Emich from the Madison Area Lions Club installed 27 bricks along the Knights of the Blind walkway at Ivy Green. If you want to memorialize your club or a loved one, please complete the brick donation form. It is a great way to recognize a person’s service or life or an organization.
The Lions Helen Keller Memorial staff recently attended the USA-Canada Leadership forum in Reno NV. At this forum the Memorial Committee members staffed a booth to inform fellow Lions of the planned Centennial Celebration of Helen Keller’s 1925 Challenge Speech to Lions Clubs International. In this speech she challenged the Lions to become Knights of the Blind in the crusade to eliminate preventable blindness. The Centennial Celebration is scheduled for June 7, 2025 at Ivy Green in Tuscumbia AL. We hope you will join us! Click for Details.
